AYB’s Yoga Teacher Training Weekend Workshop Series

Weekend 4: Primary Series & the Eight Limbs of Ashtanga

February 12-14, 2027

Three-Day Intensive (21 CEUs): 7:30am - 6:30pm daily

This intensive is part of AYB's Yoga Teacher Training Weekend Series, and it's open to everyone — you don't need to be enrolled in the full 200-Hour program to join. Come as a practice intensive to deepen your own study, or attend for 35 continuing education hours (Yoga Alliance CEUs) to support your existing certification. Teacher trainees, CEU-seeking teachers, and dedicated practitioners will all be learning side by side.

Āsana is only one limb of the eightfold path described by Patañjali. This three-day intensive places the Primary Series within the larger framework of Ashtanga Yoga, revealing how physical practice can support an ethical, contemplative, and transformative way of life.

Alongside daily Mysore-style practice, we’ll explore the eight limbs: ethical conduct, personal observances, posture, breath regulation, turning inward, concentration, meditation, and absorption. Rather than treating them as a rigid ladder or checklist, we’ll consider how the limbs interact and how each can be practiced in ordinary life.

Through teaching, meditation, reflection, and discussion, students will be invited to look beyond the external form of the postures and reconnect with the deeper intention of yoga: understanding the mind, loosening the patterns that create suffering, and cultivating greater freedom, wisdom, and compassion.

Each day follows a balanced rhythm of personal practice, study, and practical application. Kicking off at 7:30am with meditation followed by Mysore, prāṇāyāma and then chanting study of the Yoga Sūtras, with our first break at 10:15am. After the break, we’ll have a focused session on āsana technique and practice and then a one-hour lunch break. Afternoon study will dive into the foundational teachings of the eight-limbs of Patanjali’s Yoga. The day concludes with teaching methodology and practicum, including hands-on assisting, and round-robin teaching based on the postures studied that day.
