AYB’s Yoga Teacher Training Weekend Workshop Series

Weekend 2: Primary Series & the Vajrayana Path of Buddhism

November 13-15, 2026

Three-Day Intensive (21 CEUs): 7:30am - 6:30pm daily

This intensive is part of AYB's Yoga Teacher Training Weekend Series, and it's open to everyone — you don't need to be enrolled in the full 200-Hour program to join. Come as a practice intensive to deepen your own study, or attend for 35 continuing education hours (Yoga Alliance CEUs) to support your existing certification. Teacher trainees, CEU-seeking teachers, and dedicated practitioners will all be learning side by side.

What happens when the physical discipline of Ashtanga Yoga meets the contemplative wisdom of Tibetan Buddhism?

This three-day intensive brings together daily Primary Series practice with an accessible introduction to the Vajrayana Buddhist path. Through Mysore-style practice, meditation, teaching, and discussion, we’ll explore how the body and breath can become gateways to awareness—and how every aspect of our experience can become part of the path.

Teaching sessions will introduce foundational Buddhist principles such as refuge, bodhichitta, Buddha nature, and the transformation of habitual patterns. We’ll also consider where yoga and Vajrayana Buddhism complement one another, where they remain distinct, and how their methods can support an integrated approach to spiritual practice.

No previous experience with Buddhism is required. Curiosity and a willingness to explore are enough.

Each day follows a balanced rhythm of personal practice, study, and practical application. Kicking off at 7:30am with meditation followed by Mysore, prāṇāyāma and then chanting study of the Yoga Sūtras, with our first break at 10:15am. After the break, we’ll have a focused session on āsana technique and practice and then a one-hour lunch break. Afternoon study expands into exploration of Vajrayana (Tibetan) Buddhism philosophy and practice (meditation) with an emphasis on its common ground with yoga. The day concludes with teaching methodology and practicum, including verbal instruction, hands-on assisting, and round-robin teaching based on the postures studied that day.
