Primary Series & the Mysore Way

AYB’s Yoga Teacher Training Weekend Workshop Series

Weekend 3: Primary Series & the Mysore Way

January 15-17, 2027

Three-Day Intensive (21 CEUs): 7:30am - 6:30pm daily

This intensive is part of AYB's Yoga Teacher Training Weekend Series, and it's open to everyone — you don't need to be enrolled in the full 200-Hour program to join. Come as a practice intensive to deepen your own study, or attend for 21 continuing education hours (Yoga Alliance CEUs) to support your existing certification. Teacher trainees, CEU-seeking teachers, and dedicated practitioners will all be learning side by side.

Mysore-style practice offers something increasingly rare: the opportunity to learn individually while practicing within a community. Rather than moving through a class at the same pace, each student works with the Primary Series according to their own experience, capacity, and needs.

Over three days, we’ll explore not only how to practice the Primary Series, but how to develop a sustainable and intelligent relationship with it. Morning Mysore sessions will include individualized instruction, modifications, and guidance. Workshops and discussions will examine memorizing the sequence, working with difficult postures, understanding when to advance, responding to injury or changing circumstances, and balancing consistency with adaptability.

This intensive is appropriate for students who are new to Mysore practice as well as established practitioners seeking greater clarity, independence, and Each day follows a balanced rhythm of personal practice, study, and practical application. Kicking off at 7:30am with meditation followed by Mysore, prāṇāyāma and then chanting study of the Yoga Sūtras, with our first break at 10:15am. After the break, we’ll have a focused session on āsana technique and practice and then a one-hour lunch break. Afternoon study will turn to the Mysore system – what it is, how it works, and how to approach it as a teacher-practitioner of yoga. The day concludes with teaching methodology and practicum, including hands-on assisting, and round-robin teaching based on the postures studied that day.
